Improving children’s dental health in Peru

In Peru’s Sacred Valley, the Children of the Rainbow School supports the most impoverished, at-risk children with meals, medical and dental care, and education. AKP has supported the school since 2008.
As part of its health initiatives, the school’s Zero Cavity program aims to help children enjoy adequate oral health. Campaigns of prevention demonstrate the correct brushing of teeth, care of gums and use of dental materials. The program also offers preventive treatments, regularly delivered dental kits and educational talks on the importance of dental health.
The program has been successful, as demonstrated by the following results: In 2018, only 63% of the school’s students ended the year cavity-free; in 2022, 93% ended the year with no cavities.
