Muang Khay Secondary School

AKP provides a school in Laos with critically-needed resources to help deal with overpopulation

Overview

Serving a student population of around 700 students comprised of three ethnic groups from 14 villages, Muang Khay Secondary School is an important school located along the drive from Luang Prabang to Kuang Si waterfalls. Although the falls are one of the most popular tourist destination in Laos, unfortunately schools and villages located along the drive to the falls rarely interact with tourists or reap any of the benefits of tourism. With no outside help and overcrowding of up to 100 students per classroom, the school started to build three classrooms on their own to deal with overpopulation but ran out of money before completion.

In 2017, AKP assisted the completion of the three classrooms by providing funding for the windows, desks, and chairs.

Visit this Project

During your visit to Muang Khay Secondary School you will be accompanied by a few students at the school who will show you the facilities. This is a very remote area and English is extremely limited so you can interact with the students and ask them questions with the help of your guide. This is a great opportunity for the students to practice their English. With advanced notice, guests are welcome to volunteer at the school and teach English for an hour to either students or teachers.

A&K can include a visit to Muang Khay Secondary School on a Tailor Made Journey to Laos. Contact our offices in Australia, the UK or the USA for assistance in creating an itinerary just for you.
