ZAMBIA | At AKP, we are working toward eliminating healthcare disparities in disadvantaged populations through our Global Medical Assistance Program. AKP is honored to partner with Project C.U.R.E., the world’s largest supplier of donated medical supplies, to overcome some of these obstacles — and to meet the needs of communities who are lacking access to critical medical resources. Project C.U.R.E. identifies, solicits, collects, sorts, and distributes medical supplies and services according to the imperative needs of the world.
With staffing and daily operations of the Nakatindi Health Clinic being handled by government, we were also very lucky to have all the medical equipment for the new Nakatindi Maternity Ward provided through Project C.U.R.E., who worked with AKP to send a 40-foot shipping container packed with office equipment, delivery beds, an ultrasound scanner amongst an assortment of other items to outfit a medical facility — all valued at $400,000 (USD)!
The maternity ward, as with the clinic, is now under the governance of the Ministry of Health. Three mid-wives are already assigned to cover the facility, with an additional four coming in over the next few weeks. With staffing and medical equipment in place, the Nakatindi Maternity Ward is off to a great start. AKP looks forward to continuing our strong partnership with Project C.U.R.E. in addressing the needs of resource-limited population.
In 2018, we plan on expanding AKP’s Global Medical Assistance Program to our partner communities in Uganda, Tanzania, and Cambodia.
