AFRICAN SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND MANAGEMENT
Faced with a perpetual shortage of nurses and midwives, Bwindi Community Hospital once struggled to provide its community with the health care it needed. Uganda Nursing School Bwindi has stepped in to fill this urgent gap, empowering the region for a healthier tomorrow.
The remoteness that makes the Ugandan region of Bwindi so beautiful also poses a challenge to its people. With a location so distant from the nearest city, it’s difficult to draw and retain health care workers who speak the local language.
To address this urgent need, Uganda Nursing School Bwindi (UNSB) opened its doors in 2013, welcoming in 13 students from the local community. In the years that have followed, the school has produced a steady stream of graduates, providing robust, reliable health care to over 500,000 people. In 2025, UNSB became the African University of Science and Management (AUSM).
With support from our guests and the local community, A&K Philanthropy has provided scholarships to reduce tuition for students and furnished the school with a new a kitchen, classroom block and science wing, as well as software, textbooks and curriculum development resources.
Today, AUSM alumni have gone on to excel in their careers, making significant contributions to the healthcare sector in Uganda and beyond.
