FUNTASIA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

The Funtasia After School Program brings creative learning opportunities to culturally deprived children in one of the world’s most iconic destinations: Luxor.

EDUCATION

On a bank of the Nile, the city of Luxor was built on the pharaohs’ prosperous ancient capital, Thebes. Across the river lies the Valley of the Kings. Yet despite the cultural and historic riches of this location, some of the local communities see little of the wealth that tourism brings in, and their children have few opportunities.

And so in 2014, AKP funded the creation of a building called the Funtasia Cultural Center in Luxor to help enhance the experiences and opportunities of local schoolchildren. Today, volunteers lead workshops in pottery, painting, gardening and wellbeing activities for around 50 children ranging in ages from four to 15 years old, who attend the Funtasia after-school club to develop their practical and creative skills. The aim is to prepare young people for a life of meaningful connections, for employment in the future and to promote the use of creativity as a source of solutions to the challenges that they and their communities face.
